I started this painting of this adorable foal and its Mama this week. I absolutely love the way you can feel the energy between the Mama and her baby, in how the little one cuts his eye back to look at his gentle Mama and the focused look in her right eye. The hair on donkeys normally feels like down, especially a baby donk.
After I blocked in this adorable pair, I started painting the baby with soft, short strokes of browns and grays with a little maroon mixed in the darker areas. I paint back and forth between the soft brown hair of the Mama and her offspring, painting a little gray here and there mingled in her soft hair and rich tones of brown and transparent red oxide into her luscious coat. I am truly excited about this painting. I hope to have this one finished by next week, with a mate started as well.
